SWITZ CITY —
Linton and Shakamak were winners Wednesday in the first round of the Greene County Invitational played at White River Valley.
The Miners bested Union 96-36 and Shakamak defeated North Central 65-37 to advance to Friday's semifinals.
Clay City takes on two-time defending champ Eastern in the first game tonight and Bloomfield faces WRV in the final first-round contest. Bloomfield is competing in the tournament for the first time.
Brodie Crowe and Dess Fougerousse were the leading scorers in the first two games.
Crowe had 36 for Shakamak in the Lakers’ victory.
The Lakers had a 14-9 lead after one period against the Thunderbirds, led 33-17 at the half and took a 50-29 lead into the final frame.
Crowe had 13 of his points in the third period. Patrick Green added seven points to the totals for Shakamak, now 4-5.
Gavin Stanifer led the 1-7 Thunderbirds with 10 points, getting all of them in the first half.
Linton led most of the way in beating Union, leading 19-10 at the first stop, 43-21 at halftime and 75-24 after three quarters.
Fougerousse led the 7-2 Miners with 30 points, getting 17 in the third canto. Austin Karaszia and Keith Fulk each had 21 for Linton. Karaszia had 17 in the first half.
Ian Hamburg led the 0-8 Bulldogs with 16 points. Austin Robinson had nine and Trey Bedwell seven.
