From Terre Haute to the major leagues: Shoemaker now with Class AA Barons

Brady Shoemaker was promoted from the WInston-Salem Dash (Class A-advanced) to the Birmingham Barons (Class AA) on Monday.

Shoemaker, a former Northview and Indiana State outfielder, played in 78 games for Winston-Salem, compiling a .331 batting average with 13 home runs and 59 RBIs.

Shoemaker was pacing the Carolina League in runs scored (61) and total bases (156), was second in batting average (.331), hits (94) and slugging percentage (.549), was tied for second in RBIs (59), was third in home runs (13) and on-base percentage (.422) and was fourth in doubles (23).

Shoemaker was named to All-Star teams the past two seasons, a South Atlantic League All-Star in 2011 and Carolina League All-Star in 2012.



Notes — Joe Thatcher recorded his first save of the season for San Diego at Arizona on July 2. … Brian Omogrosso made his major league debut for the Chicago White Sox on July 3. … Brandon Dorsett recorded his first hold for Bluefield on July 4. … Ryan Strausborger is on a seven-game hitting streak for Frisco. … Brady Shoemaker hit his first home run for Birmingham at Pensacola on July 4. … Mitch Stetter retired all five batters he faced this week by strikeout and picked up his eighth hold this season for Huntsville on July 4. … Jake Petricka has walked 17 batters in his last four starts, 11 in his last two starts, for Winston-Salem. … Brett Merkley recorded his second save of the season for Great Falls on June 30.



Transactions — Brady Shoemaker was promoted from Winston-Salem (A-advanced) to Birmingham (AA) on Monday. … Blake Drake signed with the Rockford Riverhawks on Monday. … Nevin Ashley was sent from Durham (AAA) to the Gulf Coast League Rays on a rehab assignment. … Kyle Lafrenz was placed on the 7-day disabled list by Clearwater on July 1. … Alex Guthrie was acquired via trade by Gateway (Frontier League) from Abilene (North American League) on June 23, then signed with Gateway on June 24.

• Jake Eigsti — Eigsti was 4 for 23 with a home run and two RBI for Camden.

• Pascual Del Real — Del Real was 3 for 19 with four RBI in six games for Edinburg.

• Alex Guthrie — Guthrie was 5 for 19 with a double and two RBI in seven games for Gateway.

• Joe Thatcher— Thatcher made four relief appearances for San Diego. In a combined 12⁄3 innings, he allowed no runs, one hit, with two walks, three strikeouts.

• Brian Omogrosso — Omogrosso made one relief appearance for Chicago. On July 3, he pitched 12⁄3 innings, allowing one run, four hits, with no walks, one strikeout.

• Matt Zaleski — Zaleski made one relief appearance for Charlotte. On July 2, entering in the third inning, he pitched seven innings, allowing one run, five hits, with one walk, six strikeouts. He earned a no-decision as Gwinnett topped the Knights 3-2 in 12 innings.

• Mitch Stetter — Stetter made two relief appearances for Huntsville. In a combined 12⁄3 innings, he allowed no runs, no hits, with no walks, five strikeouts.

• Derek Eitel — Eitel made one start for Mobile. On July 4, he went six innings, allowing two runs, five hits, with no walks, four strikeouts in a no-decision at Montgomery.

• Ryan Tatusko — Tatusko made one relief appearance for Harrisburg. On July 2, he went2⁄3 of an inning, allowing no runs, two hits, with no walks, one strikeout in a no-decision vs. Erie.

• Jake Petricka — Petricka made one start for Winston-Salem. On July 4, he was the losing pitcher vs. Myrtle Beach, going five innings, allowing six runs (five earned), six hits, with four walks, eight strikeouts.

• Colin Rea — Rea made one start for Fort Wayne. On June 30, he was the winning pitcher at Great Lakes, going six innings, allowing three runs (two earned), six hits (two home runs), with one walk, five strikeouts.

• Jason Van Skike — Van Skike made two relief appearances for Kannapolis. In a combined two innings, he allowed no runs, one hit, with no walks, one strikeout. Both games were no-decisions.
