FRANKLIN —
Evansville Harrison and Sean Stone were winners as play concluded Wednesday in the IHSAA boys golf state finals at The Legends Course.
Harrison won its first state title in the sport and Stone, a senior member of the team, was medalist in the two-day competition.
Harrison carded 300 in the second round to finish with a 611. Defending champ Brebeuf was second with 614 and Jasper took third with 615.
Stone had rounds of 71 and 69 to finish with a 4-under-par 140 score. Evansville Central sophomore Dylan Meyer was second with 143 and Jon Williams of Indianapolis Cathedral took third with 144.
Tyler Ostrum of Warsaw, the 2011 medalist, tied for 14th with 152.
Linton junior Clayton French qualified for the final round and tied for 28th with 187, going 74 and 83. He had one birdie, four bogeys and four double bogeys in Wednesday’s round.

Track
• Sycamores honored — All five Indiana State athletes competing in the 2012 NCAA outdoor championships last week earned All-American status, which was announced this week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Brandon Pounds, a junior from Indianapolis, earned first-team All-American honors with a throw of 212-feet-1-inch (64.66 meters) for a sixth place finish in the men’s hammer throw Friday. Pounds established the Indiana State record in the event with a throw of 214 feet, 4 inches (65.34 meters) at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic on April 6. He finished fifth in the NCAA East with a throw of 213 feet and won the MVC outdoor title in the event with a throw of 209-10.
Pounds was named an indoor second-team All-American this year after placing 16th in the weight throw in the NCAA indoor championships.
Greggmar Swift, a sophomore from Bridgetown, Barbados, earned second-team All-American honors as he was 10th in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.60 seconds. Swift ran the third-fastest time in school history of 13.49 in winning the event at the MVC outdoor championships. He was fifth in the quarterfinals in the NCAA East in 13.55 after running 13.57 in the opening round.
Felisha Johnson, a junior from Indianapolis, picked up two All-American recognitions at the NCAA championships as she was named a first-team All-American in the women’s shot put and received honorable mention All-American recognition in the women’s discus. Johnson broke the Indiana State record in the shot put with a heave of 56-111⁄4 that propelled her into fifth place in the NCAA championships. She also placed 22nd in the women’s discus with a throw of 155-4.
She placed second in the discus in the NCAA East with the second-best throw in ISU history of 180-6 and was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 54-63⁄4. She was third in the discus (170-3) and third in the shot put (54-31⁄4) at the MVC outdoor championships.
Johnson was an honorable mention All-American at the 2011 NCAA outdoor championships after placing 18th in the shot put. The junior is also a two-time indoor first-team All-American after winning the weight throw at the 2011 NCAA indoor championships and placing fourth at the 2012 NCAA indoor championships.
Mary Theisen, a junior from Fall Creek, Wis., earned honorable mention All-American status with a 20th-place finish in the women’s shot put as she had a throw of 52-13⁄4 on her third attempt. She finished ninth in the shot put at the NCAA East (52-33⁄4) and just missed competing at the NCAA Finals in the discus after placing 14th in the NCAA East (159-8). She was fourth in the shot put (52-41⁄2) and fifth in the discus (166-1) in the MVC outdoors.
Theisen is a four-time Division II All-American while competing at Winona State University with a sixth-place finish in the shot put and weight throw in the 2011 NCAA indoor championships, an eighth-place finish in the shot put in the 2010 NCAA indoor championships and an eighth-place finish in the discus in the 2010 NCAA outdoor championships.
Stacia Weatherford, a junior from Indianapolis, earned honorable mention All-American status as she was timed in 59.17 for a 19th-place finish in the women’s 400 hurdles at the NCAA Finals. Weatherford was eighth in the quarterfinals in the NCAA East in 58.04 after running 58.11 in the first round. She ran the second-fastest 400 hurdle time in school history at the MVC outdoors as she placed second in 57.92. She is the school record holder in the women’s 100 hurdles after running 13.68 at the MVC outdoors in finishing second.
The Indiana State women scored four points at the NCAA championships to finish tied for 50th with Montana State, Princeton, Louisville and Oklahoma State. Louisiana State won the team title with 76 points, with Oregon second (62) and Texas A&M third (38).
The Sycamore men scored three points at the NCAA championships to finish tied for 56th with Virginia, Missouri, Tennessee, Syracuse, Texas-El Paso and Boston University. Florida won the team title with 50 points, with Louisiana State second (48) and Texas A&M third (40).
Auto racing
• Midget Week begins — Indiana Midget Week began Wednesday and will continue through Sunday.
The first of five races in the U.S. Auto Club event was run at I-69 Speedway at Gas City.
Action continues tonight at Lincoln Park Speedway at Putnamville, Friday at Bloomington Speedway, Saturday at Lawrenceburg Speedway and Sunday at Kokomo Speedway.
Bryan Clauson took Midget Week honors last year and in 2009. Shane Cottle is another two-time winner.
Darren Hagen took a 50-point lead over Bobby East in the midget point totals into Wednesday’s race.
