Three Sycamores get wins at IU

BLOOMINGTON — Three Sycamores  posted wins in the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana University Friday in the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex.

The meet was in a rain delay at the Tribune-Star’s deadline.

ISU’s Kalli Dalton ran to victory in the women’s 1,500 meters (4:41), while Greggmar Swift won the men’s 110-meter hurdles (13.86 seconds) and Brandon Pounds captured the men’s hammer throw (205-7).

Stacia Weatherford finished second in the 100 hurdle finals (14.11). Brittany Housel was edged out at the finish in the women’s 400 hurdles (1:03.58). Jaquelle Spencer came in second in a close finish in the women’s 200 (25.01).

The ISU women’s 4x100 relay of Jaquelle Spencer, Macey Black, Carmelia Stewart and Ja’liza Prophet ran a season-best time of 46.83 to finish a half-second behind Illinois State (46.39).

Drew Gambill led the ISU effort in the men’s 1,500 by finishing second in a personal-best time of 3:53.51.



In other track and field news:

• Rose senior gets new record — At Bloomington, Rose-Hulman senior Sutton Coleman established men’s school records in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 200-meter dash to lead the Engineers’ effort in the Billy Hayes Invitational on Friday night.

Coleman placed sixth against NCAA Division I competition with a school-record mark of 14.44 seconds that also ranks among the national leaders, after previously breaking his own mark in the preliminary competition.

Later in the evening, Coleman came back to snap the 200 school record with a time of 21.90 seconds to finish seventh in a field featuring nationally ranked NAIA and Division I runners.

Junior Liz Evans placed second in the NCAA Division I field in the women’s high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches, which ranks in the top three nationally in NCAA Division III this season.
