Munn scores career-high 27 as ISU knocks off Missouri State on road

SPRINGFIELD, MO. — Indiana State junior Anna Munn poured in a career-high 27 points to lead the Sycamores to a 71-67 victory at Missouri State.

The win is huge for coach Teri Moren’s squad, as it ends a nine-game losing streak to the Bears and gives the Sycamores their fifth win in Springfield, Mo., in the long history of the series.

Indiana State made many big plays down the stretch and overcome foul trouble. Post players Marina Laramie and Racheal Mahan both fouled out.

Laramie had 10 points and eight rebounds, and Mahan added nine points, eight boards and three blocks.

But Munn was 10-of-18 from the field, hitting 3-of-10 from beyond the 3-point arc. Moren was impressed with how Munn created her own shot Friday night.

“Tonight, she was terrific. Normally, we watch her hit all those threes from the outside. She put it on the floor quite a bit tonight,” Moren said.

Missouri State rallied in the second half after ISU led by 13. After the Bears tied it up, ISU answered.

Kasey Johnson hit a big 3-pointer for the Sycamores for her only points of the night, following up a buzzer-beating play by Anna Munn with the shot clock winding down.

Taylor Whitley scored 13 points, going 7-of-9 at the free-throw lne.

Indiana State used a 13-5 run to take a halftime lead. Marina Laramie was called for a technical foul, and the Sycamores went on a run after that.

Indiana State (12-7, 4-4 MVC) travels to first-place Wichita State on Sunday.

Indiana State’s baseball was out of pitching, and after a loss to Wichita State on Thursday, the Sycamores were out of second-chances too at the Missouri Valley Conference baseball tournament. What the Sycamores weren’t out of was heart, guts and clutch performances from some unlikely sources. But in the end, Friday’s elimination game rematch against the Shockers was a sampling of ISU’s season overall — the Sycamores were out of luck.
