TERRE HAUTE —
Nick Ciolli was known best for his hitting prowess during his time as a former outfielder for Terre Haute North, Wayne Newton Post 346 and Indiana State University.
But it was his defensive prowess for the Winston-Salem Dash that earned him a couple mentions last week on ESPN’s SportsCenter “Top 10 Plays of the Day”.
Ciolli made a tumbling catch, hurtling over the low rightfield wall to rob Salem’s David Mailman of a home run at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem on Tuesday. The catch was featured as the No. 2 highlight on SportsCenter the following day.
Proving that was not a fluke, Ciolli robbed Travis Adair, Myrtle Beach, of a grand slam home run, also at Winston-Salem, on Wednesday. This time, he backed into the wall making the catch at nearly the identical spot as Tuesday’s catch. That play earned the No. 5 slot on SportsCenter's “Top Plays” the following day.

Derek Eitel spent just one day with Arizona Diamondbacks’ Triple-A team at Reno. The next day, he was returned to Visalia (A-Adv.) where he’d played all this season.
Jake Eigsti was selected to play in the Frontier League All-Star Game at Avon, Ohio on Wednesday. Playing for Rockford, the former ISU infielder was leading the league with a .411 batting average through Thursday’s games. That is a lead of 60 points over the second best hitter.
