TERRE HAUTE —
Adam LaGrange and Alexandra Pickens earned double honors Thursday in the Terre Haute City Junior Golf Tournament concluded at Rea Park.
Each were winners in the 15-17 division and each received the Travis J. Smith Junior Golf Award presented by Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos and Newlin in memory of the former junior golfer.
Tami Smith and Tom Newlin made the presentation of the award.
LaGrange is a Terre Haute North junior and bested teammate Sam Pollock in a playoff to win the boys 15-17 championship.
Each finished 54 holes of play with 220 scores. LaGrange shot 72 at Hulman Links to take a two-shot lead into the final round of play and Pollock sank a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole for a 72 on Thursday to force the playoff.
LaGrange birdied the first playoff hole to claim the title.
“It was a great fight between me and Sam. I have great respect for my teammate. He is a great golfer. I am proud of the way I fought down the stretch,” said the winner.
LaGrange also has won a Mountain Dew event at Cascades in Bloomington and won the Mark LaGrange Memorial this summer. He and other North players will vie for a spot in the Boys State today in a qualifier at Harrison Hills at Attica.
Ryan Baker took third in the 15-17 division with a tournament-low 71 in the final round for 224.
Pickens is a senior at Terre Haute South and claimed her first 15-17 championship, shooting 249.
Justin Wilson had a 73 in the final round and finished with 249 to win the boys 13-14 title. He was second a year ago and earlier won his age group in the Brazil Open this summer.
Cam Lewellyn took second with 257.
Megan Ramer carded 253 to win the girls 13-14 division while Andrew Granda had 119 to claim a repeat title in the boys 11-12 division.
David Hayes was another repeat winner, shooting 135 to take 10-under honors.
“My score was better than last year. My chip-ins were important today,” said the 9-year-old winner who attends Dixie Bee School.
Coming up — More junior golf events are coming up this month.
The Rea Park Junior Classic is July 20.
A junior clinic is slated at Idle Creek for July 25-26 and a junior tournament is set for July 27 at the course.
Players should contact the pro shop at each course to sign up for the tournaments and clinic.

Colts hoping for more high marks on draft picks
A year ago, the Indianapolis Colts received high marks for the impact players the team added through the NFL draft.
Of the 10 players selected, five ended up either starting or seeing extensive playing time (quarterback Andrew Luck, tight ends Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen, wide receiver T.Y. Hilton and running back Vick Ballard) during the Colts’ 11-5 season.
While this year’s class may not rival that group in terms of name recognition and flash, it may produce just as many major contributors once the 2013 season gets underway. - Colts in wait-and-see mode for tonight’s NFL draft
