Indiana State women’s basketball coach Teri Moren announced the addition of Sara Riedeman to the Sycamores’ staff this week.
Riedeman joins ISU after serving as head coach at Roncalli High School in Indianapolis for the past four seasons.
Riedeman played three seasons (2002-05) at the University of Indianapolis during Moren’s tenure with the Greyhounds, setting a school record by knocking down 44.2 percent (149 for 337) of her 3-point shots in her career. Indianapolis posted three straight 20-win seasons from 2002-05, going 74-22 during her time as a student-athlete.
While at Roncalli from 2008 through 2012, Riedeman coached the Rebels to a 68-28 record, winning three straight sectional championships and one regional title (2010-11). Before taking the head job at Roncalli, Riedeman served as an assistant at Bishop Chatard High School from 2005-08, supporting the team to the Class 3A state championship game in 2008.
Riedeman has worked as head coach with three Indiana AAU programs since 2005, including Indiana’s Finest 14 and under (2005-2008), Indiana Legends 15 and under (2008-2010) and Indiana Elite 17 (2011-2012).
Golf
• Ace posted — At Casey (Ill.) Country Club, Shelva Gaither got her fifth career hole-in-one Tuesday, using a 9-iron on the 100-yard seventh hole.
Witnesses were Sandy Stabler, Pat Cannon and Sharon Hamilton.
Track
• Evans honored again — Rose-Hulman junior standout Liz Evans earned Capital One first-team Academic All-American honors, according to results released this week by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Evans was one of 15 women’s track and field and cross country student-athletes named to the Capital One NCAA Division III Division Women’s First-Team Academic All-American squad.
Evans earned the 96th Academic All-American award in Rose athletics history and claimed the 13th honor in the sport of track and field. She also became the fifth Engineer track athlete to earn multiple Academic All-American honors.
Evans received first-team Academic All-American honors after a season that featured her fourth consecutive women’s high-jump national championship. She became only the second athlete in Division III history to earn four consecutive women’s high-jump national titles between indoor and outdoor meets.
In her career, Evans has earned six All-American awards with four first-place efforts (2011 indoors and outdoors; 2012 indoors and outdoors) and two national runner-up performances (2010 indoors and outdoors). She also is a three-time Great Lakes Region Athlete of the Year and has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Year four times.
In the classroom, the mathematics and electrical engineering double major carries a 3.50 grade-point average. She previously captured second-team Capital One Academic All-American honors in 2011.
Auto racing
• Latest results — At Crossroads Dragway, three days of Midwest Junior Series action were featured with more than 300 racers coming from as far west as Iowa and as far east as Virginia.
The weekend of June 15-17 had more than 300 entries of junior dragsters. Fun Night runs on Friday begin this week’s schedule.
Regular points races are on Saturday’s card along with the Jegs Super Quick series by Ivy Tech, with test and tune from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and time trials at 2:30.
Regular points races and the second Fast 33 at the 330 race are set for Sunday with time trials at 11:30 a.m.
