Softball scene: Prescription Shop team impressive at Evansville

TERRE HAUTE — With the dismal performances in ASA state tourney play by several local teams, the results this past weekend certainly fall into the much-improved category.

Leading the way for local efforts would be the Terre Haute Prescription Shop team. Participating in the MSP Class “E” state tourney in Evansville, the squad managed a fourth-place finish in the 20-team affair. Falling in their first game to Hardesty Insurance of Bloomington by a 22-7 score, the local team managed to reel off four consecutive wins before being eliminated by Knepp Electric 20-0. The wins were against Beacher Plumbing 14-4, Great West 14-8, C-Town Bombers 18-16 and Clyde’s Pool & Hot Tub Shack 9-7.

Their only losses came at the hands of eventual tourney champion Hardesty Insurance and tourney runner-up Knepp Electric.

Playing for the Terre Haute team were: Levi Sinclair, Tommie Smith, Jerrod Sampson, Eric Tresler, Matt Brand, Justin Wilson, Ryan Hayes, Brett Lawson, Charlie Lee, Brett Conner and Dan Bettman.

Also faring well in invitational play this past weekend were a couple of the usual suspects, DeHart Rental and Chop Shop.

Playing in Avon, DeHart Rental notched another round-robin tourney title with three consecutive wins. In doing so, DeHart’s defeated Indy Elite 13-9, Surge 14-11 and Indy Stars 27-13. DeHart Rentals are playing again this weekend in Bedford in preparation for competing in the ASA MSP Class “D” Nationals in Montgomery, Ala. the weekend of Aug. 31-Sept. 4.

Chop Shop, another regular tourney participant, traveled to Odon to compete in an 11-team invitational. The Chop Shop team started tourney play with a 14-12 loss to Graber’s and then won five straight games before falling once again to Graber’s by an 11-9 count. Before their final loss, Chop Shop defeated Gastoff’s 15-14, K & W Walls 31-3, Berea 17-7, Black Buggy 9-8 and Graber’s 11-4.
