Softball scene: Wabash Valley has plethora of softball-playing opportunities

TERRE HAUTE — The Softball Scene column has resurfaced for yet another summer of softball reporting. As such I hop to be able to cover the local softball action. Having mentioned that, let’s see what’s happening locally.

Adult programs are presently being offered by the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department, Terre Haute Family Y, Terre Haute Church League and Brazil YMCA.

n Brazil YMCA — Largest of the operations, it has 31 teams competing in men’s, co-ed and church league play. Men’s league play is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, while the co-ed play (both church and open league) is Monday through Wednesday.

n Terre Haute Park and Recreation — Spencer Field hosts 22 adult teams playing in men’s and co-ed league play. Monday is the co-ed variety, while Tuesday and Wednesday evenings are for men’s league play.

n Terre Haute YWCA/YMCA — The newly combined operation host 14 adult league teams. Nine co-ed teams play on Thursday evenings, while five men’s teams compete in the Sunday league.

n Terre Haute Church League — This long-standing operation offers league play for co-ed and men’s adult league teams. Games are scheduled Monday through Thursday evenings at the Northside Methodist Church on North Fruitridge Ave.
