TERRE HAUTE —
Terre Haute North Vigo High School student Alex Farmer recently attended the Pre-Med Summer Scholars Program at the University of Notre Dame.
Students are selected for this program from throughout the country and must submit an application for acceptance.
During the program, from July 8-21, the scholar acquires a vast knowledge of pre-med programs and studies the many different attributes of the medical field. Students also participate in hands-on laboratories and experience general college life.
University of Notre Dame professors instruct the students in a wide range of academic fields which enable them to explore many different interests.
Farmer is now a senior at Terre Haute North.

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 58th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.
To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition.
About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and more than half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
Joshua D. Blome of Casey Westfield High School and Kimbra Shaner of Robinson High School, both in Illinois, are National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalists.
