TERRE HAUTE — Otter Creek Middle School student Matthew Johnson recently earned a silver medal at the State Solo Contest at North Central High School in Indianapolis. He performed in front of a judge and earned high marks for playing the song “Honor and Arms” on his tuba. He earned a Gold Medal at the district level in early February.

Ethan Philip Valentine of Terre Haute was among undergraduate students at the University of Iowa recently named to the Dean’s list for the 2012 fall semester.

Undergraduate students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, who achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or higher on 12 semester hours or more of UI graded course work during a given semester or summer session and who have no semester hours of I (incomplete) or O (no grade reported) during the same semester are recognized by inclusion on the Dean’s List for that semester.

Lori Winters, a 1989 graduate of Grace Baptist Church School in Terre Haute and daughter of the late Dave “Bud” and Linda Winters, has made the President’s List with a 4.0 grade point average at Kaplan University in Chicago. The university also recognized Winters among the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. The Kaplan University nomination board also recognized Winters among the Ambassador and Leaders Organization.

Additional students have been named to the Vincennes University Dean’s List for Fall 2012 which includes students from the Vincennes campus, Jasper campus, Aviation Technology Center in Indianapolis, military bases, and other extended sites. To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must complete at least 12 credit hours and achieve a grade point index of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.

On the list are: Stacie R. Gilbertson of Jasonville and Jannae R. Jackson of Linton; Katlyn L. Kizzee of Farmersburg and Justin K. Huxford of Rosedale.
