TH South Marching Band performs at Lucas Oil Stadium

TERRE HAUTE — The Pride of South Marching Band from Terre Haute South Vigo High School performed at Lucas Oil Stadium for the Bands of America on Nov. 7.

The Pride of South Marching Band has been working on their show “BUGZ!” since late June.

The show, written by John Meehan, contains three movements: “The Anthill” (in which members of the color guard are ants), “The Garden” (in which they are flowers and butterflies), and “The Web” (in which they are black widow spiders).

This is the first time the Pride of South has performed at Bands of America. Although the band has never performed in such a large venue, members were extremely excited.

According to band director Tim Murphy, the marching band has been doing very well at contests. The scores have been increasing and the sound and look of the band has been improving at a steady rate.

“The band has greatly improved in all areas this year, but if I were to single out one area, it would have to be how the band sounds. The music is written well, the kids are playing it well and having fun with it,” Murphy said.

Out of 23 guard members on the field this year, 10 are in their first year and nine are in their second.

The Bands of America contest was the band’s final performance, but you can catch them parading down the streets of Disney World over spring break.

Murphy added, “The Terre Haute South Marching Band is an absolute fantastic group of students who are very close-knit and are very fun to work with”

Tim Murphy, Steven Humphrey (assistant band director) and Nicole Murphy (color guard coach), along with the rest of the staff, are very proud of the kids and all the hard work they have put into making this a fantastic year.
