West Vigo plans Veterans Day program

The West Vigo High School Social Studies department will again coordinate the annual Veterans Day program. The program will be staged in the Viking main gymnasium at 10:30 a.m. Tim Skinner, chair of the department and an Indiana senator, is in charge of the arrangements. Serving as Master of Ceremonies will be Chris Covert.

The guest speaker will be Col. Chris Pfaff who has recently returned from serving in a war zone. He is also the husband of West Vigo math teacher, Tonya Pfaff. Also speaking will be a 2009 graduate of West Vigo, Adam Millar.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Color Guard will present the colors and Charlie Caton will perform Taps.

The day will honor those who have served our country in military service and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice during their service. One such veteran to be honored will be Shawn Overton, a Viking graduate who served two tours in Iraq and was recently killed in an auto accident. Tom Balitewicz, principal, will be speaking in his honor.

The music department will be providing some vocal and instrumental arrangements and the Vikes and Tykes Daycare will be performing “You’re a Grand Ole Flag.”

An invitation has been issued to all veterans and their families to attend the presentation.
