Four Riverton Parke students perform at Hispanic Global Night

Four students from Dilia Smith’s Spanish classes at Riverton Parke High School participated in the Hispanic Global Night at Indiana State University on Oct. 17.

The event was sponsored by the Hispanic Student Association at ISU.

Students Katie Vanduyn, Mary Gruner, Megan Higgins and Kaila Higgins participated in a traditional Spanish meal and performed a traditional dance from Colombia called “Cumbia-Mapale.”

The theme for this year’s event was “Hispanic Heroes.” Presentations were given covering the lives of notable Hispanic persons such as Simon Bolivar and Emiliano Zapata.

“This event was an excellent opportunity for the students to learn more about the Hispanic culture and notable Hispanic figures who have contributed to world history,” Smith said.
