Riverton Parke Junior High spellers win contest at Woodrow Wilson

Riverton Parke’s Junior High Academic Spell Bowl team has won its district contest, taking the Class 4 title at Woodrow Wilson Middle School on Oct. 24.

The Panthers tied with Rockville for first place, the first time in recent years that two schools have had identical scores and tiebreaker answers.

There will be a state finals contest for junior high competitions; the contest is co-sponsored by Purdue University and the Indiana Association of Secondary Principals.

Riverton Parke Spell Bowl Coach Sue Woodard commented that she had a record number out for the team this year.

“I started with around 21,” Woodard said. “We scored higher than six other larger schools at the contest, so I believe that looks good for our future.”

Competing for Riverton Parke this year are Dakota Milner, Tanner Gilbert, Mickey Reeves, Taylor Guoli, Logan Pollard, Savannah Arnold, Kemp Harper, Ashlyn Scott, Jayson Johnston, Sierra Schermann, Megan Keith, Megan Dressler, Hannah Feuquay, Matt Lowe, Justin Norris and Travis Price.
