Parke County — The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has honored scholar-athletes for the 2008-2009 academic year and eight Riverton Parke Lady Panthers are among them. The student-athletes must have accumulated a minimum of a 3.5 grade-point average for the year to qualify for honor. Receiving certificates from the NFCA this year are graduates Megan Vincent and Sara Julian, senior Makenzie Haltom, juniors Ashley Kinne and Mikayla Grindle and sophomores Elizabeth Dickey, Sheldan Falls and Haley Chambers.
“We emphasize academics first at Riverton Parke, and we’re proud that we have so many of our girls honored for their work in the classroom,” Joe Cox, coach of the Lady Panthers said. “It’s out goal to have an entire team of girls who put this kind of emphasis on their academics. We’re very happy about this,” he added.
