All Vigo second-graders enjoy field trip to Children’s Museum

TERRE HAUTE — During the month of January, all second-graders in the Vigo County School Corp. were treated to a fun-filled and educational field trip to the Terre Haute Children’s Museum, courtesy of a grant from the Vigo County Education Foundation.

This established field trip fund is earmarked for admission into the museum, lunch for the students, and costs to transport the children to and from the museum. This fund was made possible through the proceeds from the “I Can’t Believe It’s Not A Gutter” Benefit Bowl, staged at the Terre Haute Bowling Center in September.

The 2nd annual Benefit Bowl raised more than $30,000 thanks to the support of 11 corporate sponsors, more than 20 prize sponsors, 60 bowling teams, and countless community members bowling alongside teams from each school in the corporation.

The event also included a silent auction, with items that included a football autographed by the Colts Superbowl Championship team, and autographed jerseys. These and other generously donated items contributed to the success of the event.

The Vigo County Education Foundation is a not-for-profit organization with the mission of providing programs and projects to enhance public education through community support. Its goal is to connect private dollars with public schools and the Benefit Bowl did just that. The Foundation sent more than 1,500 second-grade students to the museum with hopes of igniting in these children the creative spark for discovery and lifelong learning.
