GOALS, PRIDE & ACHIEVEMENT: May 17, 2012

TERRE HAUTE — Rachel Bowers of Terre Haute has been named one of the “Top 10 Women” at Butler University. Butler released a list of it’s “Top 100 students”  on April 13.

The Butler University Alumni Association sponsors the Outstanding Student Recognition Program to pay tribute to the talent and dedication that characterizes Butler students. The 100 recipients are nominated by students, faculty and staff members for their outstanding character, scholarship and leadership.

The program seeks those who give unselfishly of themselves and who are highly regarded by the entire university community.

Bowers, an honors college senior, is an education major with a 3.85 GPA. She has made the dean’s list five times and is a member of Mortar Board Scarlet Quill Chapter, Order of Omega, Kappa Delta Pi’s educational honor’s fraternity and Butler’s Blue Key Society. Bowers enjoys working with children, and as a student teacher tried to teach her students the value of community service.

She instructed her classroom in building a lemonade stand that generated more than $300 for victims of Hurricane Irene. Additionally, Bowers volunteers for College Mentors for Kids and Best Buddies.

She is also a volleyball coach at the Immaculate Heart of Mary School and works with Youth Slam, a program for high school students who are visually impaired.
