Riverton Parke senior advances in ‘Democracy’ contest

For the second straight year, Heath Rohr, a Riverton Parke High School senior, has advanced far into the annual state Voice of Democracy contest, sponsored by the Indiana Veterans of Foreign Wars. Rohr, who was a state finalist in 2012, placed third in the 6th District contest, and was honored at a program at Post 10003 in Carmel on Feb. 10.

This year’s theme was “Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?” Rohr, who won the local contest again this year, was required to write and record a 3- to 5-minute speech on the subject.

Rohr is the son of Jodi and Anthony Rohr of Montezuma. After graduation, he is interested in a career in the military, and is hopeful that he’ll be attending the United States Air Force Academy next fall. He is in the National Honor Society, an active member of the school’s FFA program, and is regularly on the honor roll.
