Correctional facility hosts final Ivy Tech graduation
The Rockville Correctional Facility recently conducted graduation ceremonies for its GED, Ivy Tech Career Technical and PEN Apprenticeship programs. This marks the final graduation with Ivy Tech Community College as the career technical program provider with the State of Indiana.
There were 104 graduates encompassing GED, business technology, building maintenance, culinary arts and PEN apprenticeship. The keynote speaker, Dave Garrison of Ivy Tech, addressed the graduates with a message of hope and change using the skills gained from the programs offered at RCF.
Pamela Ferguson, assistant superintendent of re-entry for RCF, welcomed the graduates, staff and 80 guests present to witness the commencement ceremonies.
Lincoln Trail College announces fall online classes
Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Ill., offers a way for students to get an education from the comfort of their homes this fall though online offerings.
Among the online classes beginning Aug. 16 are: Intro to Anthropology (ANT 2101), Cinema Appreciation (ART 1141), Managerial Effectiveness: Personnel (BUS 1102), Principles of Business (BUS 1103), HIPAA Compliance (HEA 1209), History of Vietnam (HIS 2122), Introduction to Literature (LIT 2101), English Literature (LIT 2122), Shakespeare (LIT 2151), Intro to Human Pathophysiology (LSC 2114), Mathematics for Elementary Majors (MTH 1121), Philosophy of Religion (PHI 2121), Ethics in the Medical Community (PHI 2141), Survey of Physics (PHY 1110), Social Psychology (PSY 2107), Abnormal Psychology (PSY 2111), Race and Ethnic Relations (SOC 1108) and Death and Dying (SOC 2104).
Hybrid courses, courses that include some classroom meetings and some online work, include: Liberal Arts Math (MTH 1103), Calculus and Analytic Geometry III (MTH 2173), Intermediate Algebra (PRE 0420) and Human Growth and Development (PSY 2109).
To enroll in an online or hybrid class, a student must first successfully complete Introduction to Online Learning (CIS 1104).

BRUCE’S HISTORY LESSONS: Montgomery Meigs establishes Arlington National Cemetery
This week (June 15) in 1864, Brig. Gen. Montgomery C. Meigs, who had been appointed Quartermaster General of the Union Army in 1861, established Arlington House, the former home of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, as a cemetery for the Union’s soldiers. Today Arlington National Cemetery is America’s national military burial ground.
