Riverton Parke students win at gourd festival

The Indiana Gourd Society staged its 2012 Fall Festival at the Parke County Fairgrounds on Nov. 3, and art students from Riverton Parke High School entered decorated gourds in the student art competition, taking home many of the program’s top awards.

In the “Toys or Animals” category, Hanna Brucken received first place, Dakota Milner was second, Jayda Johnston was third, Kaleb Huxford was fourth, and Alexis Brockett took fifth place. Ruth Ann Darkis received fourth place for her “Bird House” entry, and Samantha Shei took fourth for her entry in the “Made My Way” category.

Students used gourds donated by Helen Thomas, owner of Sandlady’s Gourd Farm, and Pat Moore, contest coordinator. Additional students with contest entries were Page Fetter, Conner Hall, Sierra Schermann, Angel Leonard and Mackenzie Cottrell. Riverton Parke art teacher is Janice Cole.
