College offers summer officiating workshop

ROBINSON, ILL. — Find yourself behind home plate this summer as Lincoln Trail College presents Summer Officiating from 6 to 8 p.m. May 3.

LTC assistant baseball coach Devin Taylor will teach this workshop that covers basic umpiring mechanics; managing a baseball game from pregame to postgame; and even handling rowdy coaches and fans. This class, which meets in Williams Hall 114, is a must for anyone interested in umpiring summer ballgames.

Cost is $20 before May 1 and $25 after the May 1 deadline. To register, call Community Service at (618) 544-8657, ext. 1130.



Lincoln Trail College is now registering students for summer intersession and eight-week summer semester classes.

Classes in the following subject areas begin June 5: business, college preparatory, computer, education, English, communications, speech, Spanish, health occupations, humanities, math and social science.

Regular eight-week summer courses begin June 5 and conclude with final exams July 30 and 31.

    Kaleigh Basan has been named valedictorian and Jeff Woods and Kendall Davies are co-salutatorians for the Turkey Run High School Class of 2013.
    Graduation ceremonies will be in the high school gymnasium at 11 a.m. May 25 with 36 students receiving their diplomas.

    The Civil War began this week (April 12) in 1861 with the shelling of the Union fort, Fort Sumter, by Confederate troops in South Carolina. Four years later that war ended with the total defeat of the Confederacy, and in the war’s wake many historians have concluded that a Union victory was inevitable given the huge advantages that the Union North had in terms of manpower, weaponry, manufacturing and industrial capacity.
