Rose Ventures video conference on social media set

An upcoming video conference will provide insight on how businesses can embrace and possibly profit from social media technology. The conference is scheduled for Feb. 5 at Rose-Hulman Ventures, on Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s South Campus.

This is actually the second part of a series examining “Embracing Social Media: What, How, Why Not,” provided through TechPoint’s New Economy, New Rules seminars. The session will cover the topic “The Effects of Tracking & Selling Online Activities.” The hourlong session begins at 8:30 a.m., and is free.

One of the greatest advantages digital marketing offers is the ability to customize and personalize messages based on the recipients’ likes and dislikes. Marketing in the new social media landscape, however, brings with it new challenges of walking the fine line between quality promotion and invasion of privacy.

Sharing their views and best practices for developing effective social media marketing platforms utilizing behavioral tracking and personalized content will be David A.W. Wong, associate with Barnes & Thornburg LLP; Chris Baggott, chief executive officer of Compendium Blogware; and Michael V. Bloxham, director of insight and research for Ball State University’s Center for Media Design.

Rose-Hulman Ventures is along Indiana 46, approximately two miles south of the interchange with Interstate 70.

Individuals planning to attend should contact Drew Gehman, Rose-Hulman Ventures’ information technology specialist, at drew.gehman@

rhventures.org or Donna Smith, assistant to the director of Rose-Hulman Ventures, at donna.smith@rhventures.org. Both staff members can also be reached at (812) 244-4000.

Rose-Hulman Ventures hosts TechPoint’s New Economy, New Rules video conferences on the first Friday of each month. The topics change each month. For more information, go to www.techpoint.org.
