Riverton Parke competes at Academic Bowl

TERRE HAUTE — The Riverton Parke High School Academic Bowl teams competed in the district contest of the Indiana Academic Super Bowl on April 17, and the RP Social Studies team led the way for the Panthers with a first-place finish among the Class 4 schools.

In all, 20 area high schools of all sizes competed.

The 2012 topic was “The American Revolution,” and all teams (English, fine arts, mathematics, science and social studies) prepared for the 25-question rounds by putting in hours of study before and after school.

The social studies team, coached by Michael Butler, was composed of members Jesse Rightsell, Heath Rohr and Kevin Dalia.

Members of the science team, coached by Laura Bennett, were Molly Noorlag, Thor Meyers, Quinten Carter and Wyatt Lawson. Bennett’s team placed second in the contest, while the mathematics team took third. That team, coached by Shannon Belcher, consisted of Hillary Dressler, Kori Wood, Tyler Crumrin, Thor Meyers and Kevin Dalia.

The English team, coached by Mike Lunsford, also placed third.

English competitors included Hillary Dressler, Page Fetter, Ashlyn Scott and Emily Peterson. The Fine Arts team, coached by Sande Bemis, placed fourth. Team members included Lacey Andres, Wyatt Lawson, Page Fetter and Molly Noorlag.

The Interdisciplinary team completed the evening for RP by taking second place. Team members were Dalia, Meyers, Carter, Dressler and Fetter.

The Academic Super Bowl is sponsored by the Indiana Association of Secondary Principals and Purdue University.
