TERRE HAUTE —
Winners in the Vigo County Taxpayers Association High School Competition were announced April 11 in the Vigo County School Corp.’s administration building at Seventh Street and Wabash Avenue.
Winners of The Eagle Competition include:
First place: Alexander Farmer at Terre Haute North Vigo, $300 award.
Second place: Kyle Mullins at Terre Haute South Vigo, $200 prize.
Third place: Jeremy Goddard at Terre Haute North, $100 award.
The First Place School award went to Terre Haute South. Winnings include The Eagle Trophy for a year, a permanent wall plaque and $400.

BRUCE’S HISTORY LESSONS: Montgomery Meigs establishes Arlington National Cemetery
This week (June 15) in 1864, Brig. Gen. Montgomery C. Meigs, who had been appointed Quartermaster General of the Union Army in 1861, established Arlington House, the former home of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, as a cemetery for the Union’s soldiers. Today Arlington National Cemetery is America’s national military burial ground.
