TERRE HAUTE — Dixie Bee

Fourth graders at Dixie Bee Elementary School had the honor of participating in presentations and lessons put on by a local American Red Cross volunteer Mrs. Bonnie Lu. Mrs. Lu spoke on topics consisting of tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, fire setting prevention, and humanitarianism. Students learned the importance of being prepared for natural disasters, what steps to take if they find themselves or someone else in harm’s way, and how to treat people with dignity and respect.

The American Red Cross programs are designed to bring awareness to all. Students were encouraged to share the information they learned and discussed with family members and friends in the community.  Students also learned the importance of being prepared and having a plan in place in case of an emergency.

At the end of May, the fourth graders at Dixie Bee will also be taking part in a Basic Aid Training program that will equip them with basic aid skills. The program will educate students and allow them to foster the skills needed to help themselves or others in an emergency.

Students at Dixie Bee Elementary School are fortunate to have stakeholders in the community that care about their learning. We are extremely grateful that these individuals volunteer their time and energy to help educate and prepare our students to become fine citizens.

Fayette

It has been a wonderful year at Fayette Elementary. Everyone has learned so much about keeping their bodies healthy and staying active. We recently ended the year of Physical Education with our all school Field Day. This year’s theme was “Space: the Final Challenge”. Each class went through a variety of space themed activities that challenged the students in strength, cooperation, agility, speed and mental ability. Our students at Fayette accomplished their mission and had a great time competing with their class and participating in the events.

As the summer gets here, remember to stay active, get outside and enjoy each day to the fullest. Have a great summer.

Sugar Grove

The Student Council had a very busy year at Sugar Grove. They prepared the Veterans’ Day Program, provided ISTEP pencils for every student in grades 3-5, made chocolate covered pretzels in December to raise money for Success by 6, and had special hat days, raffles and spirit days. With the Council’s help our school raised $1191.09 for Riley Children’s Hospital during the Penny War. Sam’s Club provided a pizza party and a popcorn party for the top classrooms. They sponsored Beached Whale Day for all students during lunch/recess on Wednesday, May 30th. They gave away Sugar Shack Super Hero of the Month coupons to every classroom, and kept the Sugar Shack supplies fully stocked. The list of members for our Student Council includes: Sloan Pollom, Heaven Briley, Kenyon Sholty, Michael Brace, C.J. Large, Jan Tomaszewski, Aaron Gentry, Addison Amodilla, Gabby Anderson, Hallie Baker, Cayley Johnson, Carli Cottee, Camilla Wilson, Maddie Auler, Moses Bovenschen, Carmen Gonzalez, Alyssa Huffman and Camryn Wilkey. These students were acknowledged at the Awards Program for their ideas, help and devotion throughout the whole school year.
