TERRE HAUTE —
The Vermillion-Parke Community Health Center will host Sen. Richard Lugar at the VPCHC Mobile School-Based Health Center on July 6, for a dedication ceremony at South Vermillion High School.
VPCHC is inviting citizens of Vermillion, Parke and surrounding counties to join them in celebrating the introduction of the Mobile School-Based Health Center. The public is welcome to attend a dedication ceremony, hear remarks from Lugar and partner organizations of the mobile center and enjoy a tour of the center.
The dedication ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. at South Vermillion High School, 770 W. Wildcat Drive, Clinton.
The project was made possible through a School-Based Capital Program grant that was awarded to the health center in August. The grant is made possible by the Affordable Care Act, which helps clinics expand and provide more health care services at schools nationwide.
The center will travel to all 14 schools in the five-school corporations of Parke and Vermillion counties and provide a full range of health care services so students can avoid health-related absences and get additional support to succeed in the classroom.
This pilot program to serve rural schools is being studied across the state and nation.
“We know that if kids aren’t healthy then kids can’t learn,” said Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. “These grants will make it a lot easier for working moms and dads to help get their children the health care they need and deserve. This unprecedented investment in school-based health care will bring communities closer together and help children succeed in the classroom.”
The VPCHC Clinton and Cayuga locations are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The After-Hours Clinic is open 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Clinton location.
