South opens Carmel doubleheader with 6-4 win

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute South defeated Carmel 6-4 in the first game of a Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference high school baseball doubleheader Friday evening on the Braves’ field.

Cody Brock was South’s winning pitcher, going six innings, and Pete Lannoo picked up the save with three strikeouts in the seventh.

In the second game, South was leading Carmel 5-0 in the second inning late Friday night. Complete results should appear in Sunday’s Tribune-Star.

In other high school baseball Friday:

• Shakamak 9, Northeast Dubois 1 — At Dubois, Patrick Green hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning and winning pitcher Brett Yeryar went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles to help the Class A No. 2-ranked Lakers win their 13th game of the season.

Next — Shakamak (13-1) will play Monday at Clay City.



• South Vermillion 7, Owen Valley 2 — At Spencer, Kam Weyrauch knocked in three runs and Kaden Lawson tripled to lead the visiting Wildcats to a Western Indiana Conference victory.
