Three Wabash Valley leaders have recently joined the Ivy Tech Community College — Wabash Valley Regional Board of Directors to serve two-year terms.
Jo Ann Carmichael, Sullivan County resident and office manager of Carmichael Farms, joined the Ivy Tech Wabash Valley Regional Board effective Aug. 9 as an agriculture representative. Carmichael is a native of Poseyville, with extensive experience in employment training and vocational education. Prior to becoming an office manager at the family’s farms, she worked as an employment specialist for senior adults and as the parent coordinator for the Twenty-First Century Scholars program at Indiana State University. Carmichael has a bachelor’s degree in consumer and homemaking education from Indiana State University.
Patrick S. Board, chief executive officer of Union Associated Physicians Clinic, joined the regional board on Dec. 6 as a healthcare representative. A Minnesota native, Board brings extensive healthcare experience with more than 30 years of physician practice and hospital management at organizations such as Covenant Healthcare in Milwaukee, Wisc.; University of Minnesota Clinical Associates in Minneapolis, Minn.; and Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa. He holds a master’s degree in hospital and healthcare administration from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. In addition to leadership in a number of professional organizations, Board currently volunteers in the community through TREES, Inc., Keep Terre Haute Beautiful, Downtown Terre Haute, Inc. and the United Way.
Jeffrey D. Lorick, director of the Terre Haute Human Relations Commission, joined the regional board on Dec. 6 as a community representative. He serves on the President’s Council for Diversity at Indiana State University, the Business Leadership Network and on the Community Reinvestment Board for the Federal Bureau of Prisons Federal Correctional Complex in Terre Haute. Lorick is president of the board of directors for Arts Illiana, vice president of the board of directors for Community Theatre of Terre Haute, and is a member of the Hamilton Center board of directors. He serves the Vigo County School Corp. on the board of the Superintendent’s Cabinet, as chair of the African American Mentor Program and assists in organizing its annual Diversity Writing Contest. He is co-chair of the Homeless Planning Coalition and is involved with organizing the annual Homeless Walk. On the state and national levels, Lorick serves as president of the Indiana Consortium of Human Rights Agencies and sits on the board for the National Association of Human Rights Workers.
“Having people of such caliber and diversity guiding Ivy Tech is critical to our continued growth and success,” said Chancellor Ann M. Valentine. “Their willingness to serve our region, our students and our faculty is a testimony to their belief in the value of a strong community college to strengthen and build the health and vitality of our community.”
Board, Carmichael, and Lorick join two other 2012 board additions. In February Lori A. Danielson, vice president of Clabber Girl Corp., and Dr. Carolyn Milner, superintendent of schools in the Cloverdale School Corp., joined the Wabash Valley Board to serve two-year terms.
“We welcome our new members and look forward to working together with the Ivy Tech team to provide an attainable college education for those in our community,” said Regional Board Chair Ken Baker. “We especially want to thank past board members for their leadership and dedication to Ivy Tech.”
Ed Carmichael of Carmichael Farms resigned in June after 10 years of service. Daniel Tanoos, superintendent of Vigo County School Corp., resigned in August after more than 12 years, followed by David Doerr, CEO of Union Health System, after nine years of service.
“It has been a privilege to serve the Ivy Tech family for the last nine years,” said Doerr. “I was honored to be asked and truly thankful for the opportunity to have a part in the tremendous growth Ivy Tech has experienced.”
Carmichael, Board and Lorick, along with Danielson and Milner, will work with these Wabash Valley Board members: Kenneth Baker, Applied Extrusion Technologies; Brock Blinn, PolyOne Corp.; Norman Lowery, First Financial Bank; and Donnie Ritter, Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 157.
