Northview seniors attend ‘Wish You Well’ event

BRAZIL — The Northvew High School senior girls were treated to an afternoon of information, entertainment and prizes with “We Wish You Well” earlier this month at the school.

Health professionals volunteered time to help educate young ladies on a variety of female health issues.

Principal Tim Rayle welcomed the students and speakers with sincere well wishes to the seniors. Several speakers shared medical information with Northview students. Jeanne Peacock, R.N.C.— Community Rural Health Clinic — spoke with the students about the importance of a yearly PAP test. Terri Acton from Clara Fairbanks Center for Women used a Power Point presentation to emphasize the importance of the self-breast exam. Clay County’s health nurse, Jennifer Freese, discussed HPV and meningitis immunizations. Meg Ensling, a social worker from Council on Domestic Abuse, discussed the characteristics of healthy relationships. Katherine Hamilton’s Cinandra McCleerly concluded the program with suggestions for the senior girls concerning their emotional health. She recommended exercise and a healthy lifestyle to help prevent depression. Students were allowed question-and-answer time.

Girls from the class of 2007 performed skits to introduce each speaker. Drawings for door prizes took place between presentations. Door prizes included summer bags, sunglasses, beach towels, hats, sweatshirts, T-shirts, a bath basket, gas gift cards and a gift certificate to US Nails.

Local medical professionals supported this health care program for teens by contributing cash to the door prize fund. Contributors included Dr. Charles French, Dr. Mark Thomas, Dr. Craig Johnson, Dr. David Breitweiser, Dr. James Stephens, Frank Kiefer, PA., and Jeanne Peacock RNC. Gifts were contributed by Clara Fairbanks Center for Women and Clay County Health Department employees. Jennifer French, St. Vincent Clay Hospital’s director of organizational quality, provided bags filled with medical information and sweet treats.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was a video message to seniors. Many female faculty members sent messages to students via a video filmed and edited by senior Sarah Braun. Amid the humor were tears. The message was clear: “We Wish You Well.”

The afternoon was organized by teachers in the Family and Consumer Science Department at Northview High School: Dava Boor, Michelle Burk, Joanna Connors and Janet Grey.
