. — Kindergarten registration set

The Vigo County School Corp. has scheduled kindergarten registration for the 2010-11 school year from 8 to 10:30 a.m. April 16. Children who will be 5 years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2010, should register for kindergarten. Registration will be at each elementary school. Children should be enrolled in their home school district. An official birth certificate and immunization record should be presented for the enrolling child.

Two South Spirettes advance to finals

Two members of the Terre Haute South Spirettes Dance Team have advanced to the State Finals in duet competition.

Beth Shafer, a junior, and Rielle Doll, a sophomore, gave a nearly flawless rendition of their duet “Slow Me Down” to win the championship of the South Regional of the Indiana High School Dance Team Association at Pekin. Their performance narrowly outpointed duets from Fishers High School and Lafayette McCutcheon High school.

In four competitions this season Shafer and Doll have collected three first place finishes and one third place finish. The pair will compete for the State Championship in Crawfordsville on March 20. Shafer’s home studio is The Academy of Dance, and Doll’s home studio is The Nancy Sauer School of Theatrical Dance, both in Terre Haute.



High School Honor Banquet April 1

The 52nd Annual Honor Banquet for Covington High School will be at 7 p.m. April 1, 2010 at the Beef House Banquet Hall. Tickets are $11.50 each and may be purchased at Covington High School or Fountain Trust Company in Covington. Tickets must be purchased by March 29.



Pioneer Brain Bowl coming up March 27

It’s time to get teams together for the third Pioneer Brain Bowl. This years’ event will be at 6 p.m. March 27 inside the Palestine High School Gymnasium. Your team can consist of up to five members who will answer fun trivia questions as you compete for the Brain Bowl Trophy. To sign up your team or to sponsor a student team, call Phyllis at (618) 586-2334. Fee for a team is $50 and all funds raised go to the PHS Courtyard Fund.
