METRO ROUNDUP: Rose-Hulman honors athletes at 2011 awards banquet

TERRE HAUTE — The Rose-Hulman athletic department presented Ruel Fox Burns Blankets to seniors Paul Bouagnon, Reed Eason and Donna Marsh to highlight the 2011 Athletic Honors and Awards Banquet on Tuesday night.

The Ruel Fox Burns Blanket, presented to the department’s top senior male and female athletes as voted by the coaching staff, has been presented to outstanding Engineer student-athletes since 1968.

Bouagnon is a two-sport athlete who earned 10 career conference championships in track and field and was a first-team all-league selection in soccer.

Eason was a four-time all-conference selection, a two-time all-region honoree and set school records with 200 pass receptions for 2,437 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Marsh scored 1,066 points with 896 rebounds and 295 blocked shots in her four-year basketball career. She ranks first through fourth in single-season school history in blocked shots, and holds the single-game record of 11 blocks.

The athletic department also awarded the Rose-Hulman Varsity R Club Outstanding Senior of the Year Award for the fourth straight year. The award recognizes outstanding achievement by one male and one female student-athlete during their senior playing seasons.

Cross country and track runner Tyler Kreipke captured the men’s honor. Kreipke qualified for the NCAA Division III national championships in one of the two sports in which he competes. On the women’s side, Allison Faber captured the honor for her efforts in softball. Faber established single-season and career school records for home runs for the Rose softball team this spring.

Seniors Neil Krueger and Molly Richardson earned the John Logan Award for compiling the highest female and male grade-point-average among four-year letter winners.

The Samuel Hulbert Award, named for the president at Rose-Hulman who retired after 28 years of service in 2004, is presented to the male and female senior athletes who contribute the most in terms of team spirit, sportsmanship and a determination to succeed.

Men’s soccer player Joe Salisbury and women’s soccer player Annmarie Stanley were honored for reinforcing winning attitudes and creating a positive atmosphere for their respective teams.

Kevin Hewerdine received the John Mutchner Award, presented to the gentleman who has unselfishly given his time and support to the athletic department.

The Rosie Award is awarded to the woman who has unselfishly given time and support to the athletic department. Ame Turner received the 2011 honor for her efforts in supporting all athletic teams as a fan, student-athlete and event worker.

Timothy Boyer received the Jess Lucas Spirit Award, presented annually to an individual or group whose support of the athletic department moves above and beyond the norm. Boyer serves as the public-address announcer at athletic events and has also helped raise spirit and student funds for promoting athletic teams during his career at the college.
