Anderson University scored in the 11th minute and held off a Rose-Hulman charge to earn a 1-0 men's soccer victory in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinal match on Wednesday night at the Engineer Intramural Field.
Brad Rusche fired in a blast from the deep left corner of the midfield that curved into the right side of the net for the lone score of the match.
Rose-Hulman outshot Anderson 19-8 in the match, led by six shots by junior William Senat. Junior Drew Belk also had four shots for the Engineers.
Anderson goalkeeper Chris Maloney matched Rose-Hulman sophomore Drew Miller with four saves each in net. Rose-Hulman also had a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Anderson improved to 10-10-1 and advances to the HCAC Tournament championship match at Transylvania University on Saturday. The Engineers finish the season at 12-5-3 and earned a regular season conference championship for the third time in the last five years.
