Rose-Hulman’s men’s basketball team is ranked 26th nationally in the d3hoops.com national weekly poll released on Thursday.
The Engineers, a 67-59 winner Wednesday over Earlham, are also the only Indiana school to receive votes in the poll. Rose also ranks No. 1 nationally in the weekly NCAA Division III rankings in defense, allowing just 48.2 points per game.
In Wednesday’s home game, the Engineers tied the best start to a season in program history, improving to 11-1, 5-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play to tie the 1977-78 squad. The Rose-Hulman also moved into sole possession of first place in the HCAC standings after Hanover topped previously unbeaten Mount St. Joseph.
Nate Gissentanner led four Rose-Hulman players in double figures with 13 points. He also added five rebounds and tied for team honors with five assists.
Jake Dodd added a season-high 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, Brenton Balsbaugh contributed 11 points and six rebounds and Jon Gerken scored 10 points with seven rebounds.
Jack O’Flaherty led Earlham with 16 points, and Tyler Lewers also reached double figures with 15 points for the Quakers.

Kelsey Ploof led a balanced scoring attack with 17 points and added 14 rebounds. Addie Johnson tied her career high with 15 points and Cassidy Cain scored 13.
Bria Sneed lead all scorers with 26 points for Earlham.

• Sycamore women ranked — Indiana State’s women are ranked seventh nationally according to the Track and Field News magazine’s women’s indoor collegiate dual-meet preseason rankings.
“Dual meets have long been the backbone of collegiate track and field and we have always tried to keep that in mind when we schedule meets,” coach Angie Martin said. “It is great for our sport that dual meets are making a comeback. Dual meets are very intense with a lot of pride on the line which makes for some great competition. I am excited for our team that we are recognized by such a prestigious magazine that covers our sport.”

It was Rose men’s coach Jim Shaw performing the “Bernie Dance,” based on the deceased character from the 1989 movie “Weekend At Bernie’s.”
“For a second, I thought he was having a seizure,” senior starting guard Austin Weatherford said with a straight face later. -
