Rex can’t bounce back, lose 7-4

TERRE HAUTE — Two late comebacks kept the season’s biggest crowd interested Sunday night, but the Terre Haute Rex couldn’t overcome an early deficit and lost 7-4 to the Dubois County Bombers in Prospect League baseball at Bob Warn Field.

A crowd of 1,866 endured nearly a four-hour game, in which the home team trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning.

A two-run rally cut the lead to 4-2, but the Bombers added three insurance runs in the top of the ninth before Brandon Dorsett came in to stop the rally.

Two more runs in the bottom of the ninth, therefore, came up short and enabled the Bombers to sweep a two-night, two-stadium series.

Now 16-13 for the year, the Rex travel to Western Division first-half champion Quincy for a game tonight.
