HUNTINGBURG —
A road trip went from the ridiculous to the sublime and back again for the Terre Haute Rex in Prospect League baseball Thursday and Friday.
Scheduled to complete a suspended game Thursday before a single game at Springfield, the Rex and Sliders had to wait nearly two hours for umpires to arrive.
When they finally did, the visiting Rex erupted for a 20-4 win in the suspended game, only to fall 7-3 in the regularly scheduled contest.
And Friday night at Dubois County, the effects of the late hours and long bus rides may have shown up in a seven-error performance and a 7-1 loss to the Bombers.
Joe Meggs was 2 for 4 in Friday’s game, during which the Rex actually outhit their hosts 5-4.
In the blowout win on Thursday, Koby Kraemer was 6 for 7 with a three-run homer and Chris Manning was 5 for 6 with a triple and three RBIs.
Manning added another triple in a 2-for-5 showing in the late game Friday; Meggs was 1 for 3 with a double in that game.
