The Word for the Week from the Terre Haute Reformed Presbyterian Church. Love is a complicated thing. We think in terms of feelings. Hormones get the best of us. When the feelings, flee love vanishes. We respond by saying, “I don’t love her any more.” Love is a lot more than palpitating hearts and flushed faces. The Bible defines love in terms of God. “The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (1 John 4:8).

A further definition is helpful. “This is love, that we walk according to His commandments” (2 John 1:6). God’s commandments are ten. They circumscribe the loving righteous life. Jesus Christ is the supreme demonstration. He kept the whole law perfectly. We come full circle. “The whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’” (Galatians 5:14).

Love respects parents. Love preserves life and wards off death. Love shuns affairs and is chaste. Love respects the property of others. Love values truth. Love is not greedy or lustful or jealous. This is concrete, objective, and measurable.

Young people with regular unmarried bed partners speak of making love. They fall far short of God. “Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5:21). By the grace of God, couples working on marriage in terms of truthfulness, respect, and fidelity live much closer to God’s standard.

Please join us for worship this Sunday. Pastor Bill Roberts is preaching through a new series on Basics of the Christian Life; the sermon title is: “The Christian and Work.” We are in the process of moving to a new location on the North-East corner of 25th and 8th Avenue (1407 North 25th St.); please call 812-327-5296 for details. Sunday School, for children and adults, begins at 9:30 a.m. and Worship begins at 10:45 a.m. A nursery for children three and under is available during the worship service. After Worship, a meal will be provided and all are welcome to stay for food and fellowship.

The sermon will be preached by David Dale and will share from a biblical platform how God has and is helping he and his wife Tara not only cope, but overcome the stress of caring for their severely Autisic 15 year old son. David and Tara Dale will sing the beautiful song, Does Jesus Care.

Monday Feb. 13 at 10:05 a.m. David and Tara will share with The Wabash Valley Pastor’s Prayer Breakfast group and anyone who wants to attend at 10:05 a.m. five may do so as David and Tara continue the theme from Sunday evening, That I May Know Him. Really? #2 (Pastors group meets at 9:00). This message will surely help anyone who is dealing with above and beyond issues in life as they serve Christ.
