Maple Avenue United Methodist

Centenary United Methodist

Central Christian Church-Disciples of Christ

Tonight our Youth Group will have an overnight at the church starting at 7 p.m. They will be fasting as part of a fundraiser to raise money and awareness of hunger.

On the second Sunday of Lent, our worship service will begin at 9:30 a.m. We will continue our Homeward Bound focus. We will gather and dedicate our Week of Compassion offering. A “Children’s Moment” will be led by Rev. Rebecca. Communion is served every Sunday, and all believers are invited to partake. Nursery care is provided during worship and Sunday School.

Sunday School will begin at 11 a.m. Classes are offered for children of all ages as well as two adult classes. One of our adult classes studies books of the Bible while the other adult class is focusing on sharing our faith and how we can strengthen our relationship with God.

Unity Presbyterian Church

Worship service at 1207 E. Springhill Dr. is 10:30 a.m. All are welcome. Our Pastor is Linda Peters. This week’s sermon, “Speaking to Power” is based on scriptures Psalm 27, and Luke 13:23-35. Feb. 25 - March 18, on Thursdays Unity and Central Presbyterian Churches will have a joint Lenten series. Meal, 5:15 to 6 p.m., Praise Service, 6 to 6:15 p.m. and study for children and adults 6:25 to 7 p.m. On March 25, Central will host the Lenten series following the same schedule.

Adult Bible Study and older youth, 9:30 a.m. Sunday School for the primary aged children during worship. Child care is available. Fellowship follows the worship service. Memorial United Methodist

We provide wheelchair seating, hearing assistance devices, large print bulletins, nametag, nursery and childcare areas if you need them. Just ask an usher. Childcare is provided from 8:30 until noon for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers. During the 8:45 worship service children may remain with their adult(s) through the Children’s sermon. They are then invited to Children’s Church, a time of Bible stories and crafts. During the 11:00 Casual Worship Service children are encouraged to remain in the Sanctuary. Nursery for infants is provided. Located on the east side of the education wing, infant nursery, toddlers, and pre-school classes are available.

There is now a prayer shawl ministry at Memorial. All are welcome to come and knit and/or crochet. If you do not know how to knit or crochet, someone will teach you. We have patterns and some limited supplies to get you started. Christian Science

Healing of disease and injury has been a major aspect of Christian Science for more than 140 years, with thousands of well documented occurences. But more important, is its ability to change lives from hopelessness to joy and the glorification of God. Sunday, our sermon will be on “Christ Jesus” and his healing works. It will show that these healings were a demonstration of God’s power to overcome all forms of inharmony. The public is invited to the service which is at 10:30 a.m. They will hear how to apply the truths which Jesus taught in every situation. The church is at 329 S. Sixth St.

Sunday School is at the same time and welcomes young people up to age of 20 to learn the basics of love for God and the Christ.

Wednesday service is at 7:30 p.m. The subject will be, “The Divine Principle.” The lesson will explain the Principle of God’s love for his creation which is the basis for all goodness and healing. After the lesson, the congregation shares testimonies of healings accomplished through the use of prayer.

We welcome th public to visit the Christian Science Reading Room, located in the church. It is a bookstore for those seeking a better understanding of God. It is open Wed., Thurs., and Fri. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. You will find the Christian Science Monitor, Sentinel, and “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,” by Mary Baker Eddy, in this quiet sanctuary.

St. George’s Episcopal Church, West Terre Haute

This Sunday the Rev. Chuck Ellestad will present the second Lenten series session on “Our Five Baptismal Promises, I will with God’s help.” Adult Christian Education is from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. in the parish hall.

Ellestad also will be celebrant for Holy Eucharist, Rite II, which begins at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. All are invited to stay for coffee, conversation and refreshments in the parish hall after the service.

Ellestad retired in 2006 as rector of the Church of the Ascension in Frankfort after serving more than 16 years there. Even though retired from the Church of the Ascension, Ellestad continues to be active in the ministry, serving as priest-in-charge of St. Joseph’s mission, a nursing home ministry in Lawrenceburg, Ky. He also is employed by Hospice of the Bluegrass as a stipendiary chaplain from the Frankfort office. In addition, Ellestad serves as priest “pro tempore” of St. Hubert’s Episcopal Church in Clark County, Ky., diocese of Lexington, coming to St. George’s on the last Sunday of the month.

Black History Celebration 2010 will be hosted by Grace Temple on Sunday at 4 p.m. Pastor David Fleetwood and the Grace Temple church family invite everyone to come and be a part of this exciting celebration. First Congregational Church

First Baptist Church

The traditional service, which features choir, organ and primarily traditional style hymns is at 9 a.m. The informal service, which includes piano, keyboard and guitar, blended music style and an emphasis on personal and reflective prayer is at 11:15 a.m. For the Second Sunday of Lent, Rev. Bernie Jackson’s sermon topic will be “Jesus and Bartimaeus” with scripture text from Mark 10:46-52. Music will be presented at the first service by the Sanctuary Choir as they sing a Joel Raney arrangement of “Savior, Like A Shepherd Lead Us.” The First Baptist orchestra will also provide music for the 9 a.m. service and violinist Nathan Dugger will play at both services.
