Rockville church hosts organ/percussion concert

ROCKVILLE — The Rockville Memorial Presbyterian Church, at 130 South Market St., in Rockville, will present an organ/percussion concert at 3 p.m. Sunday. Performers will be Brian McNulty and Brian Mueller, musicians in organ and percussion from Indiana University. The concert is free.

A native of Wichita, Kan., Mueller is currently pursuing a doctorate of music in percussion at Indiana University. Mueller has worked as a freelance drummer, percussionist and instructor for many years, and is also a published composer. He has traveled and performed in Europe both with a Wichita-based avant-garde jazz ensemble, The Bodo Ensemble (2005), as well as with the University of North Texas Percussion Ensemble (2007). He has also performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in 2010 and 2011.

McNulty is an organist at Fairview United Methodist Church in Bloomington and a piano accompanist for the Indiana University Children’s Choir.

His musical background is primarily in percussion, and he is also pursuing a doctorate of music in percussion at IU. He has served as an associate instructor in music theory and is currently principal percussionist of the Columbus (Indiana) Philharmonic. He won the IU Percussion Concerto Competition in 2009, and has performed at two Percussive Arts Society International Conventions (2010, 2011).
