Community UMC

Faith Building Hour is 9 a.m. and Celebration of Worship is 10 a.m.

This week, Pastor Frank will be preaching on Fruitful Trees or Stunted Shrubs from Jeremiah 17:5-10. The prophet Jeremiah shares with the God’s people the importance of trusting God in all things. He compares those who trust God with a tree planted by water. The tree is nourished and fruitful. However, those who do not trust God in all things are like a shrub in the desert without nourishment. The trees bear fruit, but the shrubs shrivel and die. We invite you to come and hear more about how trusting God can be a blessing to each of us. Pastor Frank’s Sunday sermons are also available online every Tuesday. Our mission at Northside Community is a Mission of Compassion and Hope as we intentionally “Reach the lost, Renew the Church and Reveal the Love of Christ” with compassion, hope and community. We are at Maple and Fruitridge avenues.

Tuesday Morning Bible Study is 10 a.m. We are studying the Book of Job. This study is open to anyone in the community.

Adult Children of Alcoholics Support Group: If you are an adult child (male or female) of an alcoholic parent or parents we invite you to join Pastor Frank and others to discuss the characteristics and behaviors of adult children affected by Alcoholism. The Group meets on Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. and is working through The Twelve Steps of Adult Children of Alcoholics. Workbooks are $11 each. Wednesday Evening Life Group is 7 p.m. The Life Group is studying how to experience God in our lives and ministry as by working through Henry Blackaby’s Experiencing God. Call (812) 232-2478 for location of study.

Central Christian Church - Disciples

Our Sunday worship service will begin at 9:30 a.m. A “Children’s Moment” will be led by Rev. Rebecca. Communion is served every Sunday, and all believers are invited to partake. Nursery care is provided during worship and Sunday School.

Sunday School will begin at 11 a.m. Classes are offered for children of all ages as well as two adult classes. One of our adult classes studies books of the Bible while the other adult class is focusing on sharing our faith and how we can strengthen our relationship with God.

Our General Board will meet Sunday at noon for a time of prayer and to conduct the business of the church.

We encourage people to attend worship at 5 p.m. Sunday at United Campus Ministries. United Campus Ministries is one of the ministries which Central Christian Church supports.

Central Christian will be offering a special opportunity for your holiday shopping. SERVV is a non-profit fair trade organization dedicated to eradicating poverty by providing opportunity and support to farmers and artisans worldwide. By purchasing their crafts and foods at our sale you will help raise the quality of life for people in developing countries. The SERVV Gift Shop will be open at the church: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 3 p.m.

On Monday, the evening group of Christian Women’s Fellowship will meet at 6:30 p.m. All ladies are welcome to join us.

On Nov. 21 our Scrap ‘N’ Blessing group will meet at the church. This is a group that meets monthly on a Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. to scrapbook, quilt, sew, or any craft or hobby. The day includes fun, fellowship, and a chance to get away for some rest and relaxation. The charge is $5 and each person is asked to bring a dish to share. Each month’s food has a theme and this month’s theme is Hotdogs/Coney’s. There are door prizes and raffles. This event is open to everyone.

Presbyterian Church

Worship service at 1207 E. Springhill Dr. is 10:30 a.m. Pastor Linda Peters sermon is “Birth-pains,” based on Psalm 13 and Mark 13:1-8. In music and reflection we will honor our veterans. A Called Congregational Meeting follows the worship service to elect new officers.

Sunday School for the adults and older youth is 9:30 a.m. The youngest children during worship. Child care is available. Fellowship follows the worship service. For the month of November, Unity will pray for the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa. This week we are asked to pray for Indiana Presbyterian Church in Vincennes and Lost Creek Elementary School. Choir rehearsal is each Thursday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. Come explore our outdoor sanctuary behind the office building for a time of rest and quiet.

Smith Park United Methodist Church

Newcomers are welcome to worship with us at 9 a.m. Sunday. Rev. Bart Colwell will bring the message. Scripture, familiar hymns and choruses will provide a joyful worship experience. Smith Park Church is a collection point for canned goods and non perishable food items for the 14th and Chestnut Community Center. Our After School Kids (ASK) have distributed grocery bags to residents of the community. These may be used to bring these items to the church. Centenary United Methodist

The congregation of Centenary at 301 N. Seventh St. welcomes you to our beautiful 144-year-old church. We invite you to worship with us in our “Prayer and Praise Time” at 9 a.m. Then at 9:30 a.m., hear the Rev. Paul Wagner preach on “Created to Be Loved.” Also during the service, listen to Bill Cain’s organ mastery and the Chancel Choir, directed by Dr. Scott Buchanan, sing “He Will Quiet You” (C. Berry and B. Greer).

Refreshments and fellowship follow the Worship Service, from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m. Sunday School classes are offered for all age groups and nursery care is provided. At 10:45 a.m., in the Friendship Class, Angela Boyd will teach and lead discussion on “A Suffering People” (1 Peter 4:12--19). The Pastor’s Class is continuing their study of “Growing a Heart for God” (1st and 2nd Samuel). The College Class, under the leadership of Steve Hardin, will discuss issues about religion, asked by students. The Sojourners’ Class is finalizing their study of Adam Hamilton’s book, “Conflicts and Controversies.”

Also, please consider participating in our “Prayer and Meditation Time,” led by Lay Preacher Tom Barnett, on Thursdays, 11 a.m. to noon. Presbyterian Church

Central Presbyterian Church (125 N. Seventh St.) will gather Sunday for worship at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Davis’ sermon, “The End Is the Beginning,” will be based on Mark 13:1-8, in which Jesus foretells the destruction of the Temple. Scripture this week is: Hebrews 10:19-25 and I Samuel 1:4-20. Rev. Scott Johnson’s message will be “Confident Enough to Come to Church?” Are you confident enough to come to church? Odd question, isn’t it? But, surprisingly the answer that many in our society would give is NO. Yet, the writer of Hebrews encourages us to approach the sanctuary of God with confidence!

9:45 a.m.: Fellowship and coffee/refreshments time.

10 a.m.: Sunday school begins for all ages. Children’s lesson this week will be: “The Sacred Tent”. Exodus 25-30.

Christian Science

With the current debate about what is the correct form of Universal Health Care it is important to acknowledge that Christian Science has been a very effective means of universal healing for 140 years. The use of prayer and a deep understanding of God as the source for all good has brought healing to thousands. This Sunday’s sermon begins with the keynote, “put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and holiness.”(Eph 3:24) The service is at 10:30 a.m. in the church at 329 S. Sixth St.

Sunday School also meets at 10:30 a.m. and welcomes young people to learn about the spiritual nature of God and man.

Wednesday service is at 7:30 p.m. and includes readings from the Bible and our textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,” by Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer of Christian Science. The subject for the service is, “God is cause and man is effect.” After the sermon the congregation is invited to relate testimonies of healings.





The annual Thanksgiving Service will at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 26. Printed copies of the sermon for Thanksgiving are available at our Reading Room.

The Christian Science Reading Room is in the church and is a quiet sanctuary for study and prayer. The Bible, “Science and Health,” and other inspirational materials are available. The public is invited to visit and pick up a free copy of the Thanksgiving Sermon on Wednesday through Friday from 11am to 1pm.

Emmanuel UMC

Join us this Sunday for Sunday School beginning at 9:30 a.m. with fellowship and prayer preceding at 9:15 a.m. Worship begins at 10:30 a.m. This Sunday, Pastor Karen will end her sermon series on “Your Church Experiencing God Together: The Church, God’s Perspective.”

Emmanuel will have a prayer service Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

First Baptist

A traditional service is 9 a.m. and an informal/reflective service is at 11:15 a.m. Rev. Bernie Jackson is preaching a series of sermon on Christian community and the topic for this Sunday is “Stronger Together” with scripture text from Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. The First Baptist Senior Singers will present music at the 9 a.m. service and music will be presented at both services by cellist Allen Keathley. At the first service several boy scouts will be recognized for completion of their God and Country badges. Children’s Church, for grades k-3, is held during the 9 a.m. service and a children’s story is provided at both the traditional and informal services. Sunday School, with classes for all ages, is at 10:15 a.m.

The annual church business meeting is scheduled for Sunday evening at 6 p.m.

First Congregational Church

First Congregational Church at 630 Ohio St., invites everyone to worship with us this Sunday as Rev. Gregg Ellcy, Pastor Emeritus, First Congregational Church of Marshalltown, Iowa, joins us for a special time of worship and sharing. Rev. Ellcy, one of Rev. Donald C. Mullen’s closest friends, will be sharing the morning worship as we continue to the celebration of Rev. Mullen’s many accomplishments in 40 years of ministry and 14 years in service to First Congregational Church of Terre Haute. Rev. Ellcy preached 14 years ago at Rev. Mullen’s Installation Service.
