Centenary United Methodist

Central Christian Church - Disciples of Christ

Our Sunday worship service will begin at 9:30 a.m. A “Children’s Moment” will be led by Rev. Rebecca. During the time with the Young Church we will have our annual “Festival of the Onion.” Communion is served every Sunday and all believers are invited to partake. Nursery care is provided during worship and Sunday School.

Sunday School will begin at 11 a.m. Classes are offered for children of all ages as well as two adult classes. One of our adult classes studies books of the Bible while the other adult class is focusing on sharing our faith and how we can strengthen our relationship with God.

The deadline is Sunday to order gift cards through the Scrip program. A portion of all sales remains with Central Christian for our programs.

We encourage people to attend worship at 5 p.m. Sunday at United Campus Ministries. United Campus Ministries is one of the ministries which Central Christian Church supports.

Central Christian will be offering a special opportunity for your holiday shopping. SERVV is a non-profit fair trade organization dedicated to eradicating poverty by providing opportunity and support to farmers and artisans worldwide. By purchasing their crafts and foods at our sale you will help raise the quality of life for people in developing countries. Central Presbyterian Church (125 N. Seventh St.) will gather Sunday for worship at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Davis’ sermon, “A Family Story,” will be based on selections from chapters 3 and 4 of Ruth, in which Naomi advises Ruth on her relationship with Boaz, resulting in the marriage of Ruth and Boaz. The 9:30 a.m. Bible Study Hour features classes for Juniors, Teens meeting in the Education/Activity Annex and the Adult Class meeting in the Auditorium.

At 10:30 a.m. the series “Midnight For A Saint” continues with this week’s sermon titled “Midnight At The Well.” At the midnight hour of her empty life a woman met Jesus and her life was changed forever. The intricacies of this change will be pointed out in the sermon in the hope that perhaps you will experience this amazing transforming power.

Dick & Judy Triestram will present a special illustrated gospel sermon for Integrated Family Worship.

The Junior Class Ensemble and the Lopez Family will present special music.

At 6 p.m. we continue the series, “The Whole Armor of God” with the sermon this week titled, “Peaceful Feet.” This Bible teaching explains the technique of dressing for battle, yet preferring to walk in peace. Judy Marsh will present special music.

Unity Presbyterian Church

Worship service at 1207 E. Springhill Dr. is 10:30 a.m. All are welcome. Pastor Linda Peters’ sermon, “New Love, New Mercy” is based on Titus 3:3-9. Our Stewardship theme this year comes from Lamentations: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, God’s mercies never come to an end.” Unity will celebrate Dedication of Pledges with a carry-in meal following worship.

9:15 a.m. – “What’s the Nature of Effective Leadership in Social Group, Organizations, Churches, Government Assemblies? “ (Andrea Layton) will be the topic of the Rationalist Free Thinkers Group which meets in the Library.

Also at 9:15 a.m., the Wisdom Circle meets in the educational wing. Sacred space is created for sharing and inviting the spirit of joy and discovery into our lives. Rotating leadership provides a surprise topic each week.

10:30 a.m. - Visual Cues and Belief – Rev. Amy Kindred, Minister - What symbols do men and women adopt across cultures and throughout time to express their questions and underlying beliefs? What are the visual cues or symbols that keep us connected? Much of the sermon explores symbols related to faith traditions and concepts introduced by anthropologist Angeles Arien. The church Chili Supper and raffle on a handmade curio cabinet (It’s beautiful, made of ash wood and you do not have to be present to win!) is Nov. 14 at 8461 Budd Road (just north of Heritage Animal Hospital on Clinton Road) from 4:30 - 7 p.m.

The church at 221 South Sixth Street, West Terre Haute will have a Chili Supper and Silent Auction today, from 5 to 7 p.m. Several kinds of chili will be served along with crackers, peanut butter sandwich, dessert and drink. A love offering will be taken. You can also bid on items in our silent auction. The highest bidder will be contacted.

Smith Park United Methodist Church

All are welcome to worship with us at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Pastor Bart Colwell will deliver the sermon. Familiar hymns, choruses and Scripture will blend into a joyful worship experience. ASK (After School Kids) is designed for children grades K-6 and meets at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. We are beginning our Thanksgiving food drive for the 14th and Chestnut Center. Christian Science

Christian Scientists use the Bible and our textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,” by Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, as our guide for worshiping, living, and healing ourselves and others. In “Science and Health” Mrs. Eddy wrote, “In this Science we discover man in the image and likeness of God. We see that man has never lost his spiritual estate and his eternal harmony.” The Sunday sermon will provide proofs that man has never fallen from his place as God’s perfect reflection. The service is at 10:30 a.m. in the Church at 329 S. Sixth St.

Sunday School is at the same time and welcomes young people to learn how to bring God and the Christ into their lives and to experience health and harmony.

Wednesday service is at 7:30 p.m. and includes a short lesson from the Bible and “Science and Health.” This week’s subject will describe the nature of God’s perfect reflection or image and why an understanding of this heals mankind of disease and discord. There will be time for the congregation to express gratitude for healings.

The Christian Science Reading Room in the Church is a quiet sanctuary where the public may read, borrow, or purchase resources and find answers that will enhance their search for a more spiritual consciousness. It is open on Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The annual Thanksgiving Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 26. This is an opportunity for giving thanks to God for making Truth and Love more practical in our lives. The sermon for this service is available in booklet form at the Reading Room. Please stop in and ask for a free copy.

Bernie Jackson is preaching a series of sermon on Christian community and the topic for this Sunday is “Encouragement” with scripture text from Hebrews 10:19-25.
