Terre Haute Reformed

The Word for the Week:
Mary was pregnant. A distressed Joseph thought about severing the relationship. “But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit’” (Matthew 1:20).
The angel gave further information and direction. “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). The name Jesus is a New Testament form of Joshua meaning, “Jehovah saves.”
Jesus saves. Salvation has to do with sins. Sins are violations of God’s standard for our lives. God gives us His standard in the Ten Commandments. One of them requires truth and being true (Exodus 20:16). Lying and deceit are violations of God’s standard. Lies undercut life.
Jesus saves from sins. Jesus separates people from evil conduct, such a lying, in two ways. He bears the penalty for their conduct. He died as a sacrifice for their sins. He provides new life through the Holy Spirit. He arose from the grave to do so.
Jesus saves His people. He has a focused mission. His people are those who believe in Him and trust in Him. This is the reason for the season.
Join us for worship this Sunday. Sermon Title: “Christmas People”
Scripture: John 1: 1-14
Around Easter time, people of faith sometimes hear that we should live as “Easter people,” celebrating and being an example of the Risen Christ. But what about Christmas People? What would that look like? The famous beginning of the Gospel of John gives us some hints: “We have seen his glory!” Christmas people have the advantage of knowing the whole story of the Gospel- so how should we respond? Come join us as we worship and celebrate the birth of our Savior on Christmas morning.

Breden Memorial United Methodist
Pastor Deal’s Christmas day message will be “Why There Must Be a Christmas.”
There are many scriptures in the Bible that substantiate the reason for Christmas to happen. Prophecies were given about Jesus. God had to be true to His Word. The Bible is a book of truth. Our God would be unknown. Since God has been unseen by human eyes Jesus had to come so we could know what God is like.
Come and worship with us this Christmas Sunday and experience the joy of the Birth of Jesus.
Our worship experience begins at 9:30 a.m. Special music will be given by two different persons; Sharon Clark and Jay Hendricks. Both persons are great singers. No Sunday School today.
