Three Sisters of Providence celebrate 25th anniversary

TERRE HAUTE — Three Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods recently celebrated their 25th anniversary as members of the Congregation. They are Sisters Theresa Ann Boland, Rose Chiu and Marilu Covani.

Sister Theresa Ann Boland is a native of Freeport, Ill. She currently ministers as a teacher in the Aquin Catholic School Corp. in Freeport.  

Boland entered the Congregation Aug. 16, 1987, from St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Freeport. She professed perpetual vows Aug. 12, 1995.

She graduated from Highland Community College with an associates’ degree, then from Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She received a master’s degree in education administration from Rosary College and a master’s degree in Earth literacy from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College.

Her Indiana ministries were:

Terre Haute: principal, St. Patrick School (1996-2001); Sacred Heart School (2005-2007); substitute teacher, Vigo County School Corp. (2007).

Indianapolis: principal, Holy Angels School (2001-2003).

St. Mary-of-the-Woods: assistant professor, St. Mary-of-the-Woods College (2008-2012).

Ministries elsewhere were:

Chicago: teacher, Providence-St. Mel (1989-1992); St. Angela School (1992-1993).

Hazelcrest: principal, St. Anne School (1993-1996).

Sister Rose Chiu is a native of Chang Hua, Taiwan. She currently ministers as director of postulants for Asia.

Chiu entered the Sisters of Providence Aug. 15, 1987, from Assumption Parish in Taipei, Taiwan. She professed perpetual vows Aug. 12, 1995.

She graduated from Shih Chien School in Taiwan with an associate’s degree in social studies. She received a bachelor’s degree in dogma from Theologate Fu Jen University and she received a master’s degree in special education from St. Rose College.

Here ministries were:

Shalu, Taiwan: campus minister, Providence University (1989-1993).

Yuching, Tainan County, Taiwan: director and executive director, St. Theresa Opportunity Center  (1997-2007).

Taiwan: chief executive officer, Schools for the Developmentally Challenged (2008-2009).

Sister Marilu Covani is a native of Rosario, Argentina. She currently ministers as director of worship for the Diocese of San Bernardino in California.

Covani entered the Congregation Aug. 16, 1987, from St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Pontiac, Mich. She professed perpetual vows July 21, 1993.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Bernardino Rivadavia College in Argentina.

Here ministries were:

Los Angeles: pastoral coordinator for Hispanic ministry, Archdiocese of Los Angeles San Gabriel Region (1989-1993); coordinator of Hispanic liturgy, Office of Worship, Archdiocese of Los Angeles (1993-1998).
