Satisfy thirst for prayer at St. Mary-of-the-Woods

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS — Come to St. Mary-of-the-Woods at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 to join others for an hour of sung prayers, music, times of silence and times of spoken and silent prayers in the candlelit Church of the Immaculate Conception.

This will be the second opportunity in a monthly series of ecumenical Taizé prayer programs offered by the Sisters of Providence in conjunction with the 2013 Year of the River initiative.

Each monthly spiritual event will focus on topics related to water and rivers. The theme for Feb. 19 is “Thirst.”

“With the thirst theme, we will make people aware of issues of drought, of the lack of access to clean drinking water in the world, the great lengths to which people go to get clean water, and resulting physical thirst. But we will also focus on the internal thirst we all have for peace, for hope, for love,” said Sister Paula Damiano, coordinator of programming for Providence Spirituality and Conference Center and the event’s organizer.

“I think this responds to the need people have for quiet, reflective prayer,” Damiano said of all the positive feedback she has received since the first event.

Taizé prayer opportunities are planned the second Tuesday of each month for the remainder of the year.

For more information, contact Damiano at 812-535-2926 or pdamiano@spsmw.org.
