St. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS — EDITOR’S NOTE: Eighteen Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods recently celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. The Tribune-Star features five of the sisters below. Check next Saturday’s edition for more.

S. Catherine Mayer is a native of Evanston, Ill. She currently ministers as an assistant in the transportation office at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
Mayer, formerly known as Sister Catherine Alma, entered the Congregation Jan. 16, 1949, from St. Athanasius Parish in Evanston. She professed perpetual vows Aug. 15, 1956.
Indiana ministries:
• Newburgh: teacher, St. John the Baptist School (1951-1953).
• Terre Haute: teacher, St. Joseph School (1956-1957).
• St. Mary-of-the-Woods: receptionist, Woods Day Care/Pre-School (2005-2008).
Mayer also ministered in Illinois and Massachusetts.

Sister Regina Marie McIntyre is a native of Eaton, Ohio. She currently ministers as an organist at St. Mary-of-the-Woods and St. Meinrad Archabbey at St. Meinrad, Ind.
McIntyre entered the Congregation Jan. 6, 1949, from St. Mary Parish in Richmond, Ind. She professed perpetual vows Aug. 15, 1956.
She graduated from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in music. She received a master’s degree in music from Indiana University.

• Terre Haute: teacher, St. Margaret Mary School (1951).
• Indianapolis: teacher, St. Philip Neri School (1955-1956).
• Bloomington: teacher, St. Charles School (1956-1983); liturgist (1979-1983).
• St. Mary-of-the-Woods: director of liturgy, organist, Schola director and pianist, Sacred Heart Province (1985-1991); director of liturgy (1992-1996), coordinator of liturgy (1996-2001); organist, Schola director and pianist (1992-2001).
McIntyre also ministered in Maryland, Illinois, Oklahoma and Washington, D.C.

Sister Mary Stella Morrissey is a native of Newton, Iowa. She currently ministers in prayer at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
Morrissey entered the Congregation July 22, 1949, from St. Cecilia Parish in Ames, Iowa. She professed perpetual vows Jan. 23, 1957.
She graduated from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She received training as a licensed practical nurse from Ivy Tech.
Indiana ministries:
• Indianapolis: teacher, St. Thomas Aquinas School (1961-1962).
• St. Mary-of-the-Woods: Infirmary staff (1971-1975 and 1976-1977); outpatient care, (1988-1989) licensed practical nurse, Health Care Services staff (1991-1996 and 2004-2005); licensed practical nurse, outpatient staff, (1996-2004); volunteer companion (2005); volunteer, driver and companion, (2005-2006).
• St. Mary-of-the-Woods College: assistant director, Student Health Services (1977-1978); licensed practical nurse (1978-1986); charge nurse for out-patient care (1986-1988); adjunct in health care and director of health services (1990-1991).
Morrissey also ministered in Illinois, Maryland and California.

Sister Margaret Norris is a native of Jasper, Ind. She currently ministers as a massage therapist at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
Norris, formerly known as Sister Marie Angeline, graduated from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She received a master’s degree in education from Indiana University.

• Evansville: teacher, Assumption School (1960-1962).
• Greenfield: teacher and principal, St. Michael School (1965-1969).
• Jasper: teacher, 10th Street School (1969-1978); Jasper Middle School (1978-1983); 5th Street School (1983-2001); tutor, exercise facility (2001-2003); volunteer (2003-2008).
Norris also ministered in Illinois, North Carolina and Missouri.

Sister Joann Quinkert is a native of New Albany, Ind. She currently ministers in outreach programs for Residential Services at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
Quinkert, formerly known as Sister Joan Margaret, entered the Congregation Jan. 6, 1949, from Holy Trinity Parish in New Albany. She professed perpetual vows Aug. 15, 1956.
She graduated from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She received a master’s degree in education from Indiana State University.
Indiana ministries:
• Fort Wayne: teacher, St. Jude School (1951-1956) teacher, St. Patrick School (1970).
• Sellersburg: teacher, St. Paul School (1956-1957).
• Washington: teacher (1965-1967) and principal/superior (1965-1968), St. Simon School.
• St. Mary-of-the-Woods: director of Juniors (1968-1970).
• Indianapolis: principal, St. Philip Neri School (1970-1976).
• New Albany: pastoral associate, St. Mary Parish (1976-1980).
Quinkert also ministered in North Carolina, Iowa, Kentucky, Alabama and Illinois.
