Syndicated — What event alters a celebrity's real estate status quo more than anything else? Kids.

Whether the place is too small, or the design is not conducive to kids or it's not near the right schools, many celebs end up looking for a new home right before or after they have children. And no group of people are as prone to this cause and effect behavior than the A-Lister set. From Miranda Kerr to Alicia Keys, when news of baby arrives, moving boxes aren't too far behind.

Tori Spelling

Soon-to-be-mother of four Tori Spelling announced her pregnancy in March, five months after giving birth to her third daughter Hattie. Spelling and husband Dean McDermott had only been in their Malibu home since late September 2011, but already outgrew their 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath and 2,300-square-foot home. The couple pumped in $100,000 worth of renovations, listed the house for $2.675 million and reportedly have already found a Thousand Oaks rental.

Alicia Keys

It's glassy, it's modern and perhaps it's not all that practical for a baby. Alicia Keys and husband Swizz Beatz recently listed their Manahttan penthouse for $17.95 million, only two years after buying it from Lenny Kravitz for $12.5 million. The SoHo apartment for sale has 6,167 square feet of living space plus another 3,000-square feet of terraces, 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and 4 powder rooms.

Penelope Cruz bought the Balinese-modern home in 2005, several years before marrying long-time boyfriend Javier Bardem and giving birth to first son Leo Encinas Bardem. The 3,334-square-foot house was on the small side for an Oscar-winning celebrity and grew even smaller once Cruz's family grew. She and Bardem listed the Hollywood Hills home for sale in 2011 for $3.695 million and after a few price drops, sold in 2012 for $2.88 million.

Miranda Kerr

Shortly after super model Miranda Kerr gave birth to her first son with husband Orlando Bloom, she listed her single-lady New York City loft for sale. The couple's primary house is in Los Angeles, and with a new baby in tow, a one-bedroom pad is not as practical. The two listed the Flatiron District home for sale in 2011 for $1,395,000.
