RAMBLIN’ RECK: Marian reigns in NAIA; 3 unbeaten preps remain in Valley

Rockville has a date with Frankton this week. Frankton is 5-1 going into a game with Wapahani tonight, losing to Oak Hill in two overtimes.

Oh, yes, Rockville and Casey will meet in the first round of the Classic next week.

Elsewhere, Mt. Vernon of Posey County is off to its best start since 1982 with a 6-0 record and will face Jasper this week.

Former White River Valley guard Marc Hostetter is the coach of the Wildcats.

Players from the area were among the leaders in the state stat totals last week.

Jeffrey Turner of Terre Haute South was third in scoring with a 29.4-point average.

Trey Moore of South Putnam was 10th in rebounds with 52 and Brooks Weszely of Sullivan was fourth in assists with 36.

Lane Mahurin of Rockville was second in blocks with 31 and Austin Robertson of Union was eighth with 13.

• Controversy reigned after Bloomington South defeated Indianapolis Arlington 107-2 in prep girls basketball.

• Four Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball teams were in the Mid-Major Top 25 last week. Wichita State was No. 1, Creighton No. 2, Illinois State No. 10 and Northern Iowa No. 12.

No Indiana teams were in the USA Today Top 25 for prep boys teams. Carmel received votes.

• Mo Moriarity has resigned as football coach at Salem High School but will remain as athletic director. He was the coach of state champs at Bloomington South and Carmel and was 6-16 in two years at Salem.
