Harrison College the result of school outgrowing ‘business college’ label

TERRE HAUTE — After nearly 100 years operating as Indiana Business College, the career-centered, proprietary educational institution changed its name to Harrison College earlier this year.

The school had outgrown the label “business college,” said Pat Mozley, executive director of the Harrison College Terre Haute campus on Indiana 46 north of Interstate 70.

More than half of the college’s 5,000 students statewide no longer are enrolled in business programs.

In addition to business, Harrison College, which has 12 campuses statewide, offers degrees in health sciences, veterinary technology, information technology and criminal justice. It also operates a “chef’s academy” in Indianapolis near its main campus on East Washington Street.

Along with “business college,” Harrison College also has outgrown being linked exclusively to Indiana. Classes will start this fall at the school’s new Columbus, Ohio, campus.

The college also offers online courses.

Harrison College is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. It is regulated by the Indiana Commission on Proprietary Education.

The for-profit college also is seeking initial accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission.

The Terre Haute campus had an enrollment of 272 students at the start of summer quarter. This fall, enrollment is expected to be about 315 when classes start Sept. 28.

The campus has 30 employees and an annual campus payroll of $930,843.
