Bizarre proposal on gay marriages

In response to Donna Brazile’s column in the Aug. 7 Tribune-Star: For reference, Ms. Brazile is a senior Democratic strategist, a political commentator and contributor to CNN and ABC News, and a contributing columnist to Ms. Magazine and O, the Oprah Magazine.

Undoubtedly, all of this information about Ms. Brazile is intended to impress and win the reader over to her way of thinking. For those who have not read the article, here is a brief overview:  It concerns what she sees as a civil rights issue. She is pleased to hear the Democratic Party platform drafting committee has recommended supporting full civil marriage for LGBT Americans. If all goes as planned, the language will be presented to the full Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., for a vote in early September.

It is doubtful that the early champions of civil rights for all Americans ever imagined in their wildest thoughts this great nation would one day consider condoning such an ungodly, even bizarre request as to allow LGBTs to enter into holy matrimony, especially since marriage is God’s idea. It is his plan for a solid foundation upon which a stable society may be upheld, the union of a male and female so as to “be fruitful and increase in number.” (Genesis 1:27-28.) Concerning marriage, I Corinthians 7:2 says, “each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.”

My point? Donna Brazile may have a wealth of worldly knowledge to pass along, but knows nothing about wisdom from God, why we were created and our purpose here on earth. (See 1 Corinthians 1:18-21.) We cannot glorify God in same-sex marriages. It goes against his holy image.

Anyone interested in what is happening to America and where she is headed may go to the Holy Scriptures. Read Romans 1:18-32 where it explains that, “although they knew God they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, … their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools … since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind to do what ought not to be done.”

This nation was established by God’s hand and only by His hand will it stand. If we keep pushing Him out, never acknowledging His thoughts and purposes, we will soon be a nation of the past.

History column is a good one

I loved the column in the Aug. 2 Tribune-Star by Bruce Kauffmann. The story about how Tombstone, Ariz., got its name. It was a pleasure to read. That’s what I call a true success story. We can no more imagine what life was like during the gold rush days than the young kids today can imagine what it was like in the ’40s.

And I suppose by 2082, life will be completely changed again. I feel sure there were many who enjoyed learning about the beginning of Tombstone, Ariz.

I look forward to reading more of Kauffmann’s history stories and hope the Trib will continue to pick up his column. Thanks, Trib, for Kauffmann’s entertaining stories and history lessons. It’s a true breath of fresh air amidst so much of life’s negative news.

Violence has been around forever

Lots of folks are (with good reason) greatly concerned about the senseless violence going on in the world (the USA doesn’t have a monopoly on it).

Assault weapons, violent movies, lessening morality and other things have been discussed.

While I am hardly a theologian, the New Testament states that world conditions will be much as they were in the Old Testament when the end comes.

Among other things, the Bible states that violence covered the Earth in those days.

I don’t think that there were assault rifles or violent video games back then.
